In an interview with Showbiz, the 21-year-old Olekantse from Mmadinare explained that she is determined to empower other young people through platforms such as beauty contests, noting that joining the Miss Botswana pageant will greatly assist her in achieving her purpose of youth empowerment.

She highlighted that she will use her Miss Selebi-Phikwe title to empower young people in the region in a bid to address the alarming unemployment rate they are currently experiencing.

“I will solicit for sponsorship from the business community in order to organise youth empowerment fora that will encourage young people to use their talents to make a living,” she said.

Olekantse, who holds the Miss Mmadinare 2013 title, emerged victorious after beating other 11 hopefuls in a tight competition.

She walked away with P5,000, while her first and second princesses Baeti Sebera and Botsogo Molefi earned P3,500 and P2,500 respectively.

Meanwhile, the pageant’s organiser, Otsile Mbise said the pageant marks the establishment of a modeling agency in the copper town whose aim is be to promote beauty and fashion talent in the region.

He also indicated that all the contestants will get an entrepreneurial training that will equip them with the necessary business skills to enable them to start their own enterprises.
