“Due to some factors we need to sort in the (BMS) office we have decided to postpone the AGM that was scheduled for Saturday. We are yet to decide on a new date and we would inform our members about the postponement during the day,” BMS vice president administration, David Mashonja told Mmegi Sport yesterday.

However, the association’s president Simon Modisaeman contradicted Mashonja saying the meeting would go ahead as planned.

He explained that according to the constitution, the meeting should be held between August and September 30.

When asked who has the powers to call and postpone meetings of this nurture, Modisaeman said: “According to the constitution after the executive has agreed on the date the president or secretary general would pass the message to the members.

He/she does not solely have those powers to call or postpone the meeting but he/she acts as a messenger on behalf of the executive committee”.

There have been reports that Modisaeman and Mashonja do not see eye to eye. “We have a different way of thinking; we do have our own differences. I have tried to ignore whatever differences we have so that we can work together for the benefit of the sport,” Modisaeman said.

The two were voted into office in 2014 and were heavily criticised for failing to call last year’s meeting. There have been reports that members have been calling for Modisaeman’s head, and his deputy appeared to have jumped ship to join John Carr-Hartley’s team.

It is reported that Carr-Hartley would challenge Modisaeman for the presidency with Mashonja aiming to retain the vice president position.

The meeting was set to usher a new dawn for the association that has been struck by financial problems. Just recently they had to trim a motorsport team that took part at the Motocross Africa Championships in Kenya.

Among the issues expected to be discussed at the meeting was the review of the constitution, the standards of local competitions and preparations for the motocross tournament that Botswana hosts next year.
