Botswana Football Association (BFA) chief executive officer, Kitso Kemoeng had initially said it would cost the organisers P1 million to bring Angola to Botswana.

But yesterday he clarified that the figure is the budget for the whole match. Zebras players are expected to be remunerated at normal rates, receiving P3,500 each as appearance fee.

For a win, the Zebras players will get a bonus pay of P1,500 each and a draw will see them walk away with P750, while a loss will mean they leave with only the appearance fee. “The budget for the match is P980,690, it is not for Angola alone.

There is no appearance fee for Angola. They will be flown here and all costs paid,” Kemoeng said yesterday. BFA’s preferred opponents, Nigeria had demanded $40,000 (P400,000) appearance fee but the local mother body offered around $25,000.

“That was the departing point. Angola did not demand appearance fee as we have had a relationship with them in the past and they want to carry that spirit forward,” Kemoeng said. The Zebras and Angola meet at the refurbished National Stadium on September 30 as the country celebrates 50 years of Independence.
