Kebaikanye asked to leave Masonya

On loan: Kebaikanye

Kebaikanye joined BDF XI recently on a one-year loan deal.

Briefing Rollers supporters at their special general meeting held in Gaborone on Saturday, Masonya said when Kebaikanye learnt about the arrival of Tshireletso, he asked to leave on loan.  He said the winger feared being kept on the sidelines in the coming season.

“We tried to persuade him and tell him that it does not necessarily mean that Tshireletso will play on the left.

But it appears he had already made up his mind.  However, he extended his contract for a further two years and asked to be loaned out, and we granted him that,” he said.

He said they have since made an arrangement that the player will not face Rollers when the two giants meet in an official game.  Kebaikanye has been a revelation in the past few seasons before he was relegated to the bench following the arrival of Galabgwe Moyana.

He said such an arrangement is due to the fact that either they pay part of the player’s salary while on loan or they fully foot the bill despite the fact that the player is donning another team’s colours.

Kebaikanye was following in the footsteps of Mwampule Masule who was also loaned out for a season before he returned to Rollers at the end of last season. Masule left following the return of Kabelo Dambe from South Africa.

His return from loan has now seen Noah Maposa also departing to join Mochudi Centre Chiefs, leaving Masule and Dambe fighting for the number one spot in the team. Masonya revealed that Maposa also asked for his contract to be terminated since he feared he might not have enough game time.

Rollers also released Otlantshekela Mooketsi and Michael Pillar on loan to Extension Gunners and Security Systems respectively.

Mooketsi was fighting for the left back position with both Thato Bolweleng and Kaone van der Westhuizen.  One of the supporters expressed disappointment over the departure of exciting central midfielder, Letumile Molebatsi who has since joined Orapa United.

However, Masonya said coaches are well versed in their area and will always see things differently from the way supporters see them.

“The technical team had said he was not going to make it into the team in the coming season, so we have to respect that,” he said.

He also revealed that they considered sending him to Orapa United on loan, but realised that the Mascom Top 8 champions had tabled a huge offer for the player and decided not to stand on his way.

Masonya said they have not received a huge amount of money for the sale of midfielder, Lebogang Ditsele to South African Premiership side, Highlanders Park.

Although he did not reveal the amount, he said it was just an allowance since the team pleaded that they had just joined the elite league and therefore had no money.

“The boy was already excited about the news, so we decided that we should not stand in his way even though we were not going to get value for money for his departure.  However, we have since made an arrangement with that team and we will get a portion if they decide to sell him to another team in the future,” he said.
