Judging will be based on creativity, variety of tricks, consistency and style,” BSA founding president, Thabiso Gulubane said.

It will be an individual contest and depending on the number of participants the organisers will group them in age groups of Under-16 and seniors. “Bots Five-Oh, was conceived by the BSA as its contribution, as the official custodian of skateboarding in Botswana, to the prevailing BOT50 celebrations,” Gulubane said. The tournament comes after BSA recently hosted a tournament, Heat The Street in July, which was won by Theo Seretse. Seretse will represent the country in South Africa at the African Skateboarding Championships in Kimberly.

Gulubane said Bots Five-Oh and the unrelenting progression of the local skating scene is a testament to the growing popularity of skateboarding and extreme sports in general in Botswana.

Top three winners for the Bots Five-Oh tournament will be awarded skateboard decks, skateboard parts and clothing. Registration will be open between 12pm and 2pm at the Skate Park.
