He said hosting the opening games is motivation for the club and it will also help them revive their support base in the mining town.

“It’s a great move by the association to have heeded our call and brought the launch here. It will help us announce our comeback at home and it’s a motivation to our players to take advantage of the home games,” Koama said.

Raiders have assembled two teams for women and men towards the end of last year and they competed for the first time in the qualifiers of the 2016 Extravaganza tournament that was held in Maun although they failed to progress.

“Our mission was to reach the (Extravaganza) finals in SelebiPhikwe. We wanted to measure how far we are with the best teams at the finals, unfortunately we could not go past the eliminators.

However, the little experience we gained in Maun was our starting point and we have been building on it,” he said.

The Sua-based side has set  higher ambitions and they are ready to spring surprise in their maiden season in the BoFiNet league. “We will be a surprise package this season. We believe the bar is within reach and we want to go all the way to the league championships. We have assembled great squads (women and men’s team) and the teams are ready to break the bat,” he said.

He said the club enjoys support from the Soda ash mine and from the community of Sowa Town, but he emphasised that they have no sponsors. “Botash (Botswana Ash) is our parent supporter not our main sponsor.

They are assisting us in different forms, which we appreciate but there is nothing formal in place. We are a community club and we receive a variety of support from the entire Sowa community, which we equally appreciate,” Koama said.

Three other northern zone teams which are yet to be named are expected to descend into the town for the launch and ten games will be played on October 8 and 9.
