The 1.93 metre tall shooting guard has been with the side for the past month and has already made his mark as the club’s top scorer. He joined the team when the BNL season started last month for this campaign.

“With the southern Africa basketball society being small, I was approached by South African guys who advised me to join one of the teams in their league. I took some time trying to find a club that I could play for that side then I opted for North West Eagles,” the 25-year-old said.

Prior to joining Eagles, Barrows had been training with Soweto Panthers with a view of clinching a deal but then opted for the North West side, which however remains winless this season.

Barrows has played in five of his team’s seven games and is the top scorer averaging 20 shots, fours steals with three assists and seven rebounds.

He said other teams are already showing interest in signing him for next season.

Barrows said the South African league has better facilities compared to Botswana although the players are almost at par.

He believes there is a good platform for exposure with the games televised on Supersport.   At Eagles, Barrows plays alongside fellow countryman, Emmanuel Ramoshebi, who is yet to make an impact.   Barrows said he still harbours intentions of joining the National Basketball Association Development League, arguing that he is not resigned to staying in the South African league forever.

“I have been on two year programme preparing for the NBA Development League. I am now going on the third year programme,” the former Police V player said.

As part of his preparations, he trains alone through the aid of a personal coach. Barrows has previously had international stints in Malta and Zimbabwe while he has had trials in the USA and Angola.
