However, BOMU has said that the wait will soon be over as they will announce the nominees for the categories next week.
This has given the nominees only two weeks to campaign for the ultimate prize. The awards ceremony will be held on November 5 at Boipuso Hall, secretary general of BOMU, Pagson Ntsie confirmed yesterday.
When quizzed why they will release nominees at such a late stage since the awards were launched in August, Ntsie said, “We have had several meetings with the members. They are the ones who requested for extension of deadlines for submission”.
“It is the artists themselves. From all the different chapters who requested for extension on the deadline of submission. However, the deadline is today (Tuesday),” Ntsie said, adding that the initial deadline for submission was October 3, 2016.
Ntsie also encouraged local artists to invest in having managers for their brand. He said that they noted that artists who have managers are often on the loop about many opportunities.
“Do not get me wrong. Some had long submitted their works, evidently those that have managers managing their brands. This is very important in today’s world because you get to be on the loop about many opportunities because there is someone dedicated for that whilst the artist focuses on the music,” he said.
This year the BOMU awards have up to 31 categories. The new edition is the Best Collaboration category as well as the Most Dedicated Artist award.
Under the theme ‘Awarding the greatest of all time’ the artist union will be retracing their steps as the country also just-celebrated its 50 years of independence.
“We aligned the theme with the country’s (golden) jubilee celebrations momentum. We will be retracing our steps from way back up to now,” Ntsie said.
He also revealed some of the perfomers on the night saying, “Of all the performances on the line up, what is of interest will be the collaboration of our honourable minister, Thapelo Olopeng aka DJ Tips. He will go head-to-head against DJ Fondo Fire. It will be very exciting to see.”
Other performances will come from Re Batswana Ensemble, ATI, Bouncy, Jeff Matheatau, Stika Sola as well as other upcoming artists.
