Summer of 79 is a live musical show whereby an ensemble dubbed Summer of 79 which comprises of artists such as Vivien Dakpo, saxophonist Terry Lewis, Leroy Nyoni, Cedric Ncube, Zuziwe and Debbie with a T perform cover tracks from the olden days derived from the likes of David Bowie, Temptations, Led Zepplin, David Bowie and Prince.
The event started on hyped up note with the band jamming to a full house. It was a friendly environment that had people seated on blankets, and camp chairs enjoying the music.
The compilation of the music that the Summer of 79 band performed brought back memories to many people as they performed songs such as Dobbie Gray’s Drift Away and The Temptations’ Papa Was a Rolling Stone.
Before the fun could get real, the winds gave a warning that something is about to go down but the audience had hope and faith that the winds are just passing and it will not rain.
In a few minutes there were massive winds, which were followed by thunderous rains, resulting in the show being stopped since it was held in an open space. Sadness was written all over the revellers’ faces because the fun had to stop.
However this did not mean that the fun was over, Summer of 79 show continued on Saturday where the band staged another performance leaving the audience satisfied and quenched. The music performed by the Summer of 79 band ranged from disco, funk, rock, motown and pop music.
Despite the rains the production was well set as it was in line with theme of Summer of 79. Musicians where on that 1960s and 1970s dress code. They even had Afro wigs and there were disco lights on the stage.
The final installation of Summer of 79 will be held this coming weekend at Grand Palm Hotel.
