BBMT Hosts Another Thrilling Son Of The Soil

Bana Ba Mmala Trust (BBMT) through Son of the Soil (SOTS), maintains its efforts to promote culture through song, dance poetry, food, games and craft.
SOTS, an event that was established in 2004, is a destination of culture, tradition and values of Botswana.
BBMT was established by a group of Batswana to promote and preserve culture. The Trust held another successful SOTS event last Saturday under the theme; ko re go yang re ipela.
Kgosi Segale Lentswe graced the glorious event at Serokolwane Lawns. He said he acknowledges the good job by BBMT adding that such events are important since they teach kids traditional games, food, attire and music. Kgosi Lentswe added that parents are partly to be blamed for their kids not knowing much about their culture since they prefer to teach them more about the western culture. Different traditional games such as koi, diketo, morabaraba were played at the event helping people interact with each other. Attendees were given di phafana (traditional calabash) to drink their beverages from so as to embrace culture as well as to create uniformity.
To appreciate everyone who took their time in looking good with different cultural designs while sticking to the theme, attendees were entered into a competition to recognise them and appreciate them with medals and gifts.
Hit song maker, Dr Vom of Tsaya Thobane and traditional dancers Dipela Tsa Kobokwe from Molepolole entertained the crowd. Choirs such Rangers from Artesia also gave the crowd a feel of Setswana traditional songs while inviting the crowd to sing along and dance. In an interview with Showtime, BBMT chairperson, Pontsho Pusoetsile said he was overwhelmed and happy about the support and love they get from Batswana ever since the very first SOTS.
Pusoetsile said it started with a group of 50 friends who came together and thought it could be a good idea by putting their ideas into existence, but ever since it has grown tremendously. He said such initiatives go through different obstacles before they can become a successful event.
He said the two main obstacles are having to organise such an event while they also have their respective jobs, having to deal with work and meetings to make this event a success. He said the other problem they face is money.
“However, I would like to give a special shout out to our respective sponsors Gabz Fm, Ministry of Youth Empowerment Sports and Culture Development, Botswana Tourism Organisation to mention only but a few because if it wasn’t for their support this event would not have happened. Also our honored guests who graced us with their presence because if it was not for them this event would not have been a success,” he said.
