This is the first time ever Botswana has been nominated for the category of makeup artist of 2016. Born Thabiso Moje, Diamond will come head to head with Clara Chimeloane, Vuyovaroy, Nthatomashishi, Lucoh and Missjeyarts_makeup.
The final show down will be held in Uganda on December 9.
For one to be nominated for the category the candidate had to specialise in ‘commercial’ style makeup, likely used for the following: television, bridal makeup, catalog style print work, everyday wear, and any other uses for commercial style makeup application.
Speaking to Diamond about the nomination this week he said, “this nominations comes at a time where the industry is only getting on its feet locally. This international recognition really means Botswana is progressing, and we are starting to do great work hence the nominations”.
Asked if he feels he stands a chance, especially that he is against Southern Africa’s best, the optimistic Diamond says, “look I mean my category is mainly celebrity make up artists, three of them South Africans, and one is from Zambia, the interesting part is that the public votes only amount to 40% whilst judges get 60%, and this is based on our individual project’s we have done this year”.
He continued, “This year has been my busiest. I have worked with the best, so I am confident we will take this one home”.
Diamond says he has worked with amongst others, UNICEF, as well as the leading cast in Botswana’s A United Kingdom.
He has this year worked with celebrities like Oscar award winner Terry Pheto, South Africa’s socialite Khanyi Mbau, Africa’s legendary Hugh Masekela, as well as the royal wedding of Kgosi Puso Gaborone. Diamond has also worked with styling and judging the Miss Botswana pageant over the years, including this year.
Voting can also be done through uploading the image of your nominee to any of the three social media platforms; Instagram, Facebook and Twitter, signing off with the hashtags “#Asfa2016 #Asfahappeningagain.”
