Barclays promotes anti-fraud awareness

Head of Financial Crime and Fraud Operations, Puseletso Seitei indicated that fraud becomes more rampant during busy periods like the festive season. Barclays Bank of Botswana therefore sensitises all bank users, individuals and organisations alike, to be vigilant of their financial accounts at all times and take the necessary precautions to avoid being victims, noted the bank. She urged all those who suspect any fraudulent activity to report such to either their bank or law enforcement agencies.

The bank says it continually reminds its customers to be vigilant against fraud. Several times a year, the bank drives awareness initiatives to sensitise its customers and the public to be more cautious to potential fraud.

Utilising its expertise in banking, Barclays will engage the audience in a series of topics to raise awareness, prevent and manage incidents of fraud.

Basing on last year’s the theme, ‘Act Now! Fraud Stops with You’, the bank has sought to educate the public on; who commits fraud; application fraud; card fraud; identity fraud as well as digital fraud. The bank  says it understands the consequences of such fraud and provides the public with some basic steps that can and should be taken to help combat fraud.

According to Barclays, they strive on promoting cyber-risk awareness as well as implementing a cyber crisis response plan.

“We understand that as technology evolves, we as a bank need to be up to date with its changes. Our objective this week is to positively contribute towards the awareness of cyber-crime through education and participation,” said head of marketing and corporate services, Duduetsang Chappelle-Molloy. Seitei also indicated that everyone has to be involved in combating fraud.

She noted that fraud has become complex making it imperative for all to understand the current fraud trends to be able to tackle them.
