Two candidates, Tsholofelo Kenosi and Boineelo Hardy will vie for the presidency with incumbent Thulaganyo Jankey stepping down.
Some candidates were disqualified for not submitting their CVs on time, leaving no contestants for the secretary general and technical director positions.
“This is one issue that we will have to discuss during the AGM on Saturday to find out how we can find a way to fill up these positions. Most of the candidates did not submit their CVs and profiles.
We gave them one full month and one week extension to submit,” BBA public relations officer, Tumelo Boima said. But the situation has unsettled some stakeholders who feel a solution was supposed to be found before tomorrow’s meeting.
“People have been disqualified, the technical director and the secretary general positions are the most vital positions but nothing has been done. This leaves me asking myself why we are even going to the AGM,” queried one coach who preferred anonymity. He said the new executive committee should consist of people who are dedicated to the game that will cater for players and create a suitable basketball environment. “Right now the outgoing executive committee is leaving but they have not done anything to solve issues such as payments of referees during the FIBA 3x3 tournament.”
The coach however praised individuals such as outgoing technical director, Mothusi Thipe for a splendid job. One player praised the presence of women candidates ahead of the tomorrow’s elections. “Having a number of women such as Merapelo Bonita Mogojwe, Boineelo Hardy and Lame Theresa Gaowelwe as candidates is a good development. We need gender progression within the association. Both presidential candidates are the best for the position,” said the player.
The national team player noted that it is disturbing to have candidates disqualified.
He urged the new committee to work towards building basketball courts, as the association does not own one.
In the past four years the outgoing executive team has hosted the Zone 6 FIBA Under 16 qualifiers, produced two FIBA international referees Mothusi Phokoje and Dorothy Okatch.
