Chiefs Tame Wasteful Jungle Kings

Two late goals from Senatla Molefe and Lesego Galenamotlhale gave the Magosi fans an early Christmas present after enduring three defeats in the last three games.

Chiefs started the game on a high note looking for an early goal. In the fifth minute, they were awarded a free-kick after Molefe was brought down for the second time in front of the box but Charles Mutero’s effort went wide.

Two minutes later, Police XI’s Betsho Pius tried Noah Maposa from outside the box but the goalkeeper was up to the task. With 13 minutes played in the game, Uyapo Seleka beat Othusitse Pilane with skill and set up David Makakaba who hit the roof of the net from outside the box to give his team a lead against his former employers.

On the half hour mark, Katlego Masole delivered the ball into the box but Phenyo Molefe’s header went straight into Maposa’s hands. Two minutes before the break, Seleka hit the cross bar from a free-kick. The Jungle Kings took a one-goal lead into the break.

Seven minutes into the second half, Molefe flicked for Seleka whose shot was well collected by Maposa. Four minutes later, Police rued another chance after a good counter attack as Tapiwa Gadibolae shot wide. On the 61st minute Dikgakgamatso Kesolofetse cleared Galenamotlhale’s shot off the line with the keeper left wanting. Bokamoso Moeba then produced a one hand save to deny Pilane’s long range effort. With 10 minutes to time, Ronaldo Fortune delivered a cross and Molefe half volleyed the ball into the net to level matters.

Two minutes later Thatayaone Ramatlapeng ran through the defence, laid for Galenamotlhale who beat Moeba to the far upright to give Magosi the lead. Police tried to level matters but it was little too late.

“We were the better team. We created enough chances even before the two goals.

At one time we wanted to go for broke; sent in Charles and have a little bit of height in the attack,” Chiefs’ coach Bongani Mafu said after the game.

Police’s Maitumelo Letlamoreng slammed his players for being wasteful in front of goal. “It is unacceptable and we should have won the game. We are too casual. My players just did not want to take the responsibility in the final third. This game should not have finished the way it did,” he said.
