Inaugural car expo billed for S/Phikwe

Contrary to the usual spinning, racing and risky games that car competitions embark on, this unique competition would determine the winners according to colour, sound, interior, exhaust mag wheels as well as the uniqueness of the parade that the car will demonstrate.
The town would be awash with models such as Altezza, BMW, Audi, Toyota Hilux, Honda Fit and RunX among others that have registered for the competition both as clubs and individuals. Registration is still ongoing for those who wish to participate. The founder, Maiteko Tlhaloso said this is just a charity event through which she plans to assist an economically-challenged family in Botshabelo that she identified through the assistance of the community and social welfare office.
“The living conditions of the beneficiaries have compelled me to come up with this unique expo. It is a woman headed family of 15 that lives under an inhabitable condition. So I believe that through the little I would have raised from the car expo, the family’s condition would improve,” she said.
She said the response is very positive across the country as evidenced by the calls for enquiries and the numbers who are registering to enter the competition. “We want to bring more entertainment to the mining town that has been economically desolate since the mine’s closure. It is up to us as individuals to contribute towards the revitalisation of the town’s economy instead of relying on government to do everything. Through our efforts government can be compelled to play its part,” she said.
The event, whose main aim is to raise funds for charitable activities is expected to be an annual event. Interested companies that wish to enter the competition bring a team of 10 drivers of any car brand while additional players can be placed in mixed company in order to compete.
It will be held at the showground where there would be stalls for small businesses and parastatals to showcase their products. The day would start with a motorcade and be graced with activities such as aerobics, HIV testing and counselling, fashion show as well as entertainment from local DJs.
Tlhaloso said tickets are available and can be bought from any Liqourama across the country.
She said she wanted to bring something different from the usual fundraisers to attract as many people as possible. She is hopeful that even the local businesses would benefit from the event spillovers. “We expect to leave a legacy in this town that would mesmerise people to look forward to the next event,” she added. Registration for the competition closed October 20, 2018.
The Spin City Club has been invited to grace the event while Body Flex Gym and Aerobics Centre has sponsored the event with prize monies and will provide bouncers at the entrance. Bokang Hair Salon on the other hand would sponsor with makeup for models during the fashion show. Selebi-Phikwe Town Council has also sponsored the event by availing the showground for free.
