The winner of the competition is set to walk away with P20,000. The Next Big EDM DJ auditions is a project headlined by EDM enthusiast Drew Chadhall in a bid to promote the EDM culture in the country.
Chadhall noted that for this project upcoming and amateur EDM disc jockeys would be put to test, as they will be given 10 minutes to play a set to prove themselves. “Our main focus is amateur and unexposed talent. We love to work with a product from ground going up, doing what we can to help the talent blossom and ready for the industry,” he said.
Only 10 DJs will be selected from the contestants that will battle it out in the semi finals on a date yet to be announced. The top 10 will then be reduced to five and will undergo a series of workshops, where industry legends will groom them on branding, presentation, public image, discipline, finance and more, before the grand finale in April.
“The workshops will be open to the public and on the panel will include a celebrity publicist, a long time successful serving DJ, two CEOs from some of the biggest recording labels,” he said.
Apart from the Saturday auditions there will be round two of the auditions, which will take place on February 25 at Chez Nicolas, “We decided to have auditions twice to cater for people from outside the city interested in joining”.
Interested potential and upcoming EDM disc jockeys can register for the auditions by collecting registration forms from Urban Soul stores. The auditions are set to start at 11:00am till 3:00pm.
This project comes at a time when a number of individuals such as German Dollar have been trying their best to promote the EDM culture. Apart from the Next Big EDM DJ auditions, Chadhall’s other events such as Chillstep Sundays have also played a role in promoting the EDM culture.
