Naked Soul Session is a live music performance platform spearheaded by Mpho Sebina in a bid to promote local musicians and headline their own shows. Despite it being a live music event, it will open its doors with soul music disc jockey DJ Spinz.
“This is our second year as Naked Soul Sessions. With the support we got last year from different people we have improved and have more to offer to the people and artists,” Sebina said.
The event has moved from Biber Baron to The No1 Ladies Coffee House, “We had to move to a bigger place because the audience has grown”. This was visible last year, December when Naked Soul Sessions hosted their last show.
Sebina noted that they have introduced a stall section where a craft maker will be invited to sell and promote crafts. This evening Tuelo ‘Nippy’ Setume will be showcasing and selling her newly released Changu collection bags.
“This is another way of helping to promote the local arts industry and craft makers. Calling out DJ Spinz is a way of penetrating into other musical avenues other than live music. We need to empower each other as artists instead of waiting for promoters to book us for their shows,” said the Love Lights musician.
The event has previously hosted the likes of Kabo Leburu, Ntirelang Berman, Abigail Isa, Taola and Cibil Nyte. All artists perform with a live band.
With a variety of artists perfoming at Naked Soul Sessions the event tends to call out a wide range of audience from different backgrounds.
Sebina urged artists interested in performing or selling crafts to contact the Naked Soul Sessions Team through their Facebook page. The event takes place on the first Thursday of every month.
