South cricket season starts as rains delay north

The league has eight teams with four from each zone. “Unfortunately, there will be a delay in the start of the league in the north due to the recent rains, as the designated grounds are unplayable. However, efforts are in place to target a start date of February 19. Fixtures for the north will be circulated as soon as we confirm the dates,” BCA fixtures and publicity secretary, Sumod Damodar said in a media release. The top two teams from each zone will proceed to the ‘national’ semi finals. “The league started at a proper time which will be a good time for the coach to select his senior squad for the upcoming Africa Division 50 Overs tournament scheduled for Benoni this April,” Damodar told Mmegi Sport.

He said the Under-19 have been put in their traditional club, Shinning Stars which is dedicated for young players. There are new faces selected from various grassroots projects carried out by the BCA. Tladi are the defending champions after beating Shining Stars in last year’s final.
