Dumisani Ncube | Wednesday February 15, 2017 16:26
Tafnaz is a vocalist and guitarist that has been working with a number of live performance artists and ensembles such as Abigail Isa, Mpho Sebina, Mandisa Mabutho, Debbie with a T and Cedric Ncube. He is also part of a local band, The Contrabanditz. “I have been doing a lot of recording with various artists so I decided to work on something of my own which I have been working on for sometime now and I think it’s time I released it,” said the musician.
Talking of the Saturday event he noted that it will be an acoustic night as he will perform live a number of tracks in the EP. Apart from his performance, there is a line-up of artists such as Louisa April, Lee Tshipana, Sasa Klaas and Sebina that will also perform at the event.
Describing Situationship, he noted that it is a soulful RnB project that talks of real life situations that mainly centre on love and the various elements found in love.
With RnB being one of the weakest genres practiced by local artists, Tafnaz is known for being versatile with sound. When quizzed by Showbiz why he chose the genre when it is not well received in the country especially if its done by a local musician, he said: “RnB is timeless, I have my target audience that will relate to my music plus I will also distribute it internationally”.
Showbiz had an opportunity of listening to Situationship prior its release. It has a commercial RnB sound fused with some Ragga and hip hop. The EP features the likes of Mabutho and upcoming artist Collin Mlalazi. With band The Contrabanditz, they have been hosted at Jazz Exchange opened for international acts such as Freshly Ground, Joss Stone and Oliver Mtukudzi.
