Local Gospel Artists Honoured

The awards were graced by the who is who of the industry, with the assistant minister of Youth Empowerment, Sport and Culture Development, Dikgang Makgalemele as the guest of honour.

Makgalemele noted in his remarks that AGA 2018 are aimed at reviving the overlook potential market as well as remembering the contribution of Gospel music.

He said years back, music was used to preach the gospel directly to the listener and that established artists like Vusi Mtokufa, Suggie Fisher, Tshepo Lesole and Joel Keitumele amongst others have now created an avenue of successful gospel artists.

He urged the artists to raise awareness and take their position in the gospel industry to impact lives in a positive way.

He said it is coincidence that the AGA come in the month of August, which is the month of Women.

“High quality performances by a group of artists who are passionate about their music and to have their music and their voice heard, marked by the entire nation and the rest of the world is well tailored to the development of creative industry,” Makgalemele said.

Amongst the honoured was Gabo Thothobolo, who won two awards on the night. She walked away with the best Gospel Video Award and Best Female Traditional Gospel Album. Melao E Lesome also won two awards being the Best Clap and Tap and Best Gospel group. David was named the Best Male Gospel artist while Tshepo Lesole won the Best Male Contemporary Gospel Album Award.

The event was lightened up by thrilling performances on the stage by the likes of Selelo Malete from South Africa, Rejoice, Keba, Adolf, Tshepo Lesole, Joe-T, Voice of change, Mmereki Marakakgoro and Melao E Lesome.
