The auditions took place last weekend at Cresta President Hotel. Colours is a new TV drama produced by Swanky Arrys set to be aired on national television, Btv, during the course of the year.
The actors were equipped with scripts that they read through, mastered and given between five to 10 minutes to act it in front of cameras and a panel of judges.
The actors came in with different energy levels as they expressed their various acting abilities and skills.
Actors of different ages and backgrounds comprised new and established faces that have previously appeared in a number of TV productions.
Only 40 individuals will be selected to be part of the cast.
The judging panel comprised film production experts such as film producer Samuel Ngwenya, South African acting coach Godfrey Thobejane and film director Bonginhlanhla Ncube who is a committee member of South African Film & Television Awards (SAFTAS).
“The numbers are impressive and we have over 300 people that registered today. So far the talent has been amazing. I do not think there is anyone that has performed dismally so far which will give us a headache to select the best actors,” said Ngwenya who is the producer of the TV drama.
He noted that in two weeks time they will be announcing the final 40 actors or they might even exceed that number since they will also be having coaching and mentoring for actors.
“As for the selection of the actors we are looking at various factors such as the acting skills, ability and if the body features of the various actors suit our characters.”
Ngwenya noted that Btv has already commissioned the TV drama and the shooting process for the 26-episode drama will start in May till august this year. Due to the high numbers of actors, there is a high possibility of another auditions session next weekend.
