Machinya, Kalie drill upcoming stars

Machinya and Kalie have worked in the modelling industry for years and have appeared in a number of television and editorial commercials.

The workshop is the brainchild of Machinya, who is currently based in Asia.

Machinya and Kalie shared their experiences as professionals and also drilled the upcoming talent on how they should approach the industry and what is expected of them as the talent.

The workshop was mainly attended by young upcoming female models.

The facilitators mainly touched on the professional aspect stating that one should do everything by the book and remain professional.

Kalie who has been in the modelling industry for more than 10 years focused more on the modelling aspect.  She spoke of the different types of modelling that range from ramp, commercial and editorial modelling.   Machinya spoke of both the acting and modelling aspect talking of how one should present themselves when they are in the industry.

“Basically it is a workshop for models and actors.  I feel like they are being taken advantage of locally and this workshop is meant to make them aware of how the industry should operate.  We were teaching them about how to get into the industry, how it works, branding and packaging,” Machinya said.

The workshop had two facilitators only after Dumisani Mbebe, well known as Dumisani Shabane from Generations, did not make it into the country due to family commitments.  Despite the low attendance, Machinya noted that she was impressed with the turnout stating that in two weeks she will host weekly workshops for models.

At the end of the workshop all the attendants did a photoshoot.

One of the lucky attendants will get a one-year contract with a South African agency once it goes through the series of pictures.
