The rapper recently announced his new stage name through his social media platforms as he quickly changed the account names to Chubbito.
The Lobatse native recently caught up with Showbiz as he explained the changes of his brand.
The rapper formerly known as Chub Heightz noted that the new name was birthed from the former one stating that a number of people used to just call him Chubbito up until he decided to change the name as part of his rebranding strategy.
He believes that the name is more relatable. “This is a rebranding process. I did not only come up with a new name, but there are a lot of aspects that I have changed regarding the brand.
Musically, Chubbito is different from Chub Heightz, I used to be focused mainly on mainstream hip hop, but now I am more experimental. I have tapped into other music genres and I have come up with a new style,” Chubbito said.
These changes are visibly noticed on his latest track Jaiva Sgubu, which has a Kwaito approach. The song is very different from the mainstream hip hop that he has always been known for since his entry in the rap game.
On the song he mixes Setswana and English unlike his all English raps he used to do. The song features MMP Family member, MOD who brings in the hardcore Kwaito vibe to the track.
“I have already started playing with different sounds that I am yet to release and explore. Chubbito is more fun and laid back compared to Chub Heightz.
The album will be coming out during the third quarter of the year,” he said.
Early last year when he was still known as Chub Heightz he released a track titled Never Change, which spoke of how he will keep it real and never change his game plan.
It seems the rap artist has decided otherwise. Chubbito joins a bandwagon of artists such as Apollo D, DJ Izzy and Fosta Juliano who have previously changed their stage names for rebranding purposes.
