Botswana Congress Party (BCP) vice president, Kesitegile Gobotswang said this at a Selebi-Phikwe rally as he warned Alliance for Progressives (AP) for its position to stay outside the Umbrella for Democratic Change (UDC).
“We have been there, we know and we bear testimony. We lost dismally under our slogan ‘Ready to Lead’ so do not be misled because you will be heavily threshed by Batswana through votes,” he said.
He also said that UDC could not celebrate the fact that they outnumbered AP in Ralekgetho because they were not in a competition.
“Yes, ba re senyeditse ko Ralekgetho, but our common enemy is the ruling party. Even in Mochudi we just need a word from that that they support the opposition party contesting there, but it is difficult. Batswana want us to go for general elections as a united front as the opposition. We are, however, ready for AP to arrive into the umbrella. It is their home and (the) doors are open,” he said.
Gobotswang also dismissed as untrue allegations that BCP is in the processing of leaving the UDC. He said such a decision cannot be taken without the consent of the BCP general membership therefore they fully remain UDC members as the nation demanded.
“We just cannot find ourselves in a situation where we divorce from the UDC because we have a duty to unseat Botswana Democratic Party (BDP). We cannot only reconsider our position guided by the opinion of the masses,” he said.
He added that BCP and BNF are inseparable because they are of the same DNA.
“If you want to know the BCP’s whereabouts then locate BNF. We still believe that Duma Boko will take us to the general elections with Dumelang Saleshando as his vice. Batswana now want AP back into the UDC,” he added.
