Showbiz: Can you briefly describe your crowning moment?
Gorata: To be honest when I was crowned I was over the moon and ecstatic. It is something words cannot describe. I was in a state of bliss. I was competing against 15 participants. There was a moment when I looked at each and every one of them and analysed their abilities and all of them were threats. At the 11th hour I decided to compete with myself rather than with those girls.
Showbiz: Was it you first time in a national pageant?
Gorata: It is the second pageant because in 2010 I participated in the Miss Teen YOHO and I was crowned the first princess.
Showbiz: What made you the most outstanding contestant?
Gorata: What made me the best are the virtues that have been instilled in me by my family. They don’t actually say it but we have unwritten codes and principles that I know I have to follow and that kind of upbringing has helped me to become the person I am today.
Showbiz: You are a role model for teenagers now. How are going to tackle that role and responsibility?
Gorata: I want to change the outlook of young people and make them see the error of their ways. I want to focus on education and reform learners because eventually they are going to grow into young adults. We are targeting schools and will engage them in character building activities and motivational talks. There are no job opportunities for the youth but I want people to be involved in the workforce from as young as 16 years.
Showbiz: You are heading to the world pageant next year. How are you preparing for that big stage?
Gorata: I am going to do everything in my power to represent Botswana and myself in the best way possible. I want to show the world that our youth have the capabilities of changing the world. When I get there I want to change my interaction with other contestants so that we can all learn from each other.
Showbiz: What do you do besides pageantry?
Gorata: I am a studious person and quite reserved. I don’t go out often and I would rather stay home, read a good book or watch TV. Because of the platform I have been given by this crown, it is high time I interact with people. I should get to know more young people like me and learn about their interests and get out of my comfort zone.
Showbiz: You have a year left until you are no longer a teenager. Tell us about your teenage experiences thus far.
Gorata: It’s been difficult because it doesn’t matter if you are a good child or brought up in a good family. Being a teenager is hard because some people look at me and think I don’t go through half the stuff other teenagers go through. I just prefer not to show it all the time.
Showbiz: Tell us about your upbringing?
Gorata: I was raised in a family of God-fearing people. I was raised to believe in principles and values like love, kindness, empathy, respect and dignity. I was told that whatever you do in the society and whomever you do it with should not destroy your
