The development took place last week when the rapper travelled to South Africa where he met with the Sony Africa officials and reached a value consensus of an artist and management deal. This means that Sony Africa will be managing Zeus, distributing his music, work on his bookings, public relations and marketing to mention just a few.
“This is a transition in my career as an artist since I have been an independent artist all along. Signing this deal with Sony Africa means that my music will reach a wider market in terms of distribution and it will open more opportunities for me around the world,” Zeus said.
With the Sony Africa deal it means Zeus’ music will be distributed to a wider audience and different platforms, which also sees him getting bookings across the borders.
He gave an example of how people in different countries enjoy Botswana music, but fail to get access of the music.
“This is a realisation of a life-long dream. It will help the Zeus brand grow even bigger. As an independent artist I have achieved a lot. This deal will also make it easier for me to focus on my other ventures since Sony Africa will be taking care of the music side,” he said.
Zeus is excited by his new relationship with Sony Africa as he stated that it is growth not only for him but also the local music industry as a whole. The rapper noted that he has been quietly recording an album for the past two years while he was absent in the music circles.
The album, which will be released on a date yet to be announced is titled, Pieces Of The Now.
“This strategy meeting for #PiecesOfTheNow in the Miles Davis conference room @SonyAfrica was the realization of a life long dream! I’ve always considered the long term of my career path and made moves with sustainability in mind.
From the stage of being an independent artist from a small market of 2 million to breaking through continental media against all odds, (sic),” he said through a Facebook post moments after signing the deal with Sony Africa.
This development came at a time when the rapper had gone AWOL in the music circles as he has not been releasing any new material or performing at any local event as his focus was on other ventures such as monthly event, Jam For Brunch and film production. Last year, Vee Mampeezy had a similar development in his camp when he signed a deal with Universal Music Group (UMG), which means if more local artists get such breaks Botswana music will trend internationally just as South African and Nigerian music currently is.
