Battling the Divas pits local musicians against international ones.
The production will have three vocalists Elté, Vivien Dakpo and Debbie with a T, who will perform songs that have been previously performed by international divas such as Whitney Huston, Aretha Franklyn, Toni Braxton, Beyonce Knowles and Celine Dion as a way of celebrating the power of the female voice.
“I have always wanted to create a music production that focuses on the beauty and power of the female voice. Battling the Divas is a production that celebrates the skill, vocal dexterity and athletic power needed to deliver some of the greatest songs in recent history.
After years of searching, I have found the talent I am looking for, right here in Botswana, and we are finally ready to go,” Aldo Brincat, the brains behind the production said.
He noted that 15 power songs from international divas have been selected for the three local musicians to perform as part of the production.
The trio, which has performed on different stages as solo artists each have a vocal ability of working on a range of different musical notes. Debbie with a T and Dakpo have previously performed at the Summer of ’79 and Jazz Xchange where they have shown their vocal abilities. Elté has also performed with Perfect Pitch and as a solo artist.
“We want a show that puts all those elements live on a stage for all to see and hear.”
The performing local divas will not only be contesting against the international divas, but also amongst themselves as the audience will be given an opportunity to vote.
The trio will perform alongside a live band led by Leroy Nyoni, the musical director.
