Horticultural Investor Cries For Masire

A native of Yugoslavia, Rubezic came to Botswana with the sole purpose of investing in a business that will help Botswana achieve its aim of attaining self-sufficiency in food.

Here he met a very lively old man who asked questions as much as he too was asked and he responded with well-thought plans and ideas.

“I have known him and his family for more than 10 years, but it was him I came to know very well. I am extremely hopeful that the agricultural sector of this country is going to grow given the fact that even government has programmes that support our efforts and those of other farmers”.

Rubezic’s hope is premised on the fact that many youth in this country have taken up farming and they too are always on the latest techniques to improve and increase their stock so that they derive good income in the event of selling.

“Besides our business, Feed Botswana which is located at Gaborone West Industrial area, we have our horticultural farm in Metsimotlhabe. It is an integrated farm though because we do a lot of things.

“Rra Gaone was a constant visitor at my farm where we would exchange a lot of ideas that helped improve our businesses. He was always so alive and active. When I met him three weeks ago, he was so full of life.

He wanted to do thing properly and very professionally, yet he was the kind of person you could relate to,” said Rubezic.

“He bought a tractor which he wanted to use at his farm and feedlot.Rubezic said because he was so passionate about horticulture, they became very close because Sir Ketumile was regular visitor their business in Gaborone. Among the discussions they always held we how to improve their crops like cabbage, onions, tomatoes, pepper, butternuts, spinach and many others. The idea would be to find methods to improve their quality, he said.

“Given the part that government is playing by giving support to upcoming farmers, it is not far from now that we will be self-sufficient in food.

We are all waiting. We will not forget him. We already miss him,” he said finally.
