Police, who have launched a manhunt for the other suspect, say the assailants are believed to be cattle rustlers from Hainaveldt farms, which are located about 130 kilometres from Maun.
Ngamiland Integrated Farmers Association chairperson, Simon Bojosi told Mmegi that the two attackers are believed to be behind the rampant cattle rustling in the area. He said the incident has shocked the farming community.
Ntshekang Dintho, a farm owner in Hainaveld, said the deceased were attacked at two separate but neighbouring farms. “They (the suspects) went into the first farm, attacked the first man and killed him and then proceeded to my farm two kilometres away, where they killed my employee,” he said.
“Upon getting to my farm, the attackers beat the deceased who was in company of his children. The children ran away fearing for their lives while the victim tried to escape by running into a farm house. However, they broke the door of the house and beat the man until he died.
“Thereafter, the two proceeded to the next farm where they informed people there that they had killed two ‘police ‘informers’. ”
Dintho said farmers in the area attempted to arrest the attackers, but one of them escaped while the other was caught and handed to the police. Assistant superintendent Chabota Kgannyeng said police were awaiting a post-mortem report from Letsholathebe II Memorial Hospital. “The accused will be facing a murder charge,” he said.
