The ringleaders of the coup however backed off from their plan at the last minute, as they feared it would destabilise the BNF and the Umbrella for Democratic Change (UDC). Boko is also the leader of the UDC.  The coup leaders, it is alleged, were driven with rage at Boko’s “indifference in the BMD factional wars,” insiders told Mmegi yesterday.

Mmegi is informed that the plotters wanted Boko to openly support the BMD faction led by Ndaba Gaolathe and Wynter Mmolotsi over the one marshalled by Sidney Pilane, Nehemiah Modubule and Gilbert Mangole.

Short of that, they wanted Boko to agree to step aside in favour of a named successor. The group of plotters, led by some of the finest legal minds in the BNF, believe Boko no longer listens to their advice.

“He is too quiet and not acting,” one of the group members told Mmegi.

Boko sympathisers believe the clutch of lawyers want exclusive control over the opposition leader’s actions.

“These lawyers have an inflated ego and want to remote control Boko”.

“These are wanna-be political thinkers hiding behind the legal gown who want to lead the BNF from their law firms.

They entangled themselves in BMD wars and now they are barking at Boko for taking a principled stance.

Their intention will not succeed,” Boko acolyte said. Yesterday afternoon, BNF spokesperson Justin Hunyepa said he was not officially aware of the plot against his leader.
