He is scheduled to stage his first performance in the country after a very long spell on Friday night at Chez Nicolas. He will be headlining an event dubbed One Night with HHP supported by local disc jockeys such as Black Ace, Kenzo, Kuchi, Dizzy Dee and Kinetic P.
Posting on Twitter last year he wrote, “I think Gaborone need to be reminded that Capitals have fallen many a time. Lobatse was once the capital of Bots once, (sic)”. This resulted in him stating that he would not perform in Gaborone again but that is in the past now.
“There is a huge gap; we could like bridge it, and for the fact that there was intense backlash a while ago after HHP said he will never set foot to perform in Botswana ever but we managed to persuade him and his team to come and perform in Botswana,” said Teshawn Miller from Voltex media which is bringing the artist.
He stated that with the artist coming to perform in the country on Friday, it is also an opportunity for him to redeem and rebuild the relationship he had with Batswana.
“One night with HHP is all about reviving Motswako just as a reminder of where we started as Batswana.
“So to say mostly what we are seeing nowadays is a new found love for western music being Nigerian music, which is not a problem but we want to remind Batswana where we come from,” Miller said.
With his Motswako bars, HHP used to be a favourite amongst Batswana music lovers as he was also regarded as a Motswana. He was always booked in the country up to until he had the tweet that had many calling him names.
Over the years he released singles and albums such as Acceptance Speech, MotswAfrika and Dumela, which had received a good air, play on both local and international radio stations making him a multi award winning artist with MTV and Channel O.
His latest offering, Motswako High School did not make it big like his older projects. We shall wait and see what the Motswako godfather has to offer this Friday.
