A group of both veteran and young stand up comedians such as MOD, Rib Cracker, Charles Manase, Jonny Rannoba and Triccs, to mention but a few, have come together to produce a reality show, which is presented by MOD. Just like a number of new local TV productions, TOS only broadcasts on Facebook on the production’s page named after the show.
Being a satirical reality TV show, TOS has a similar set up with the likes of Late Night News with Loyiso Gola, Saturday Night Live and Zambezi News.
“This is a project that we started upon seeing that we need a platform for local comedians and we decided to create The Other Show where we share ideas, come up with a script and produce it,” said MOD.
As a satirical reality show, it touches on different issues that range from politics, social, economy and human interest. With only seven episodes so far, TOS is receiving a good reception with each episode having over 10,000 people watching. On the TV reality show each comedian has their segment or behind the scenes role that they play.
“We want to push it on the social media platform and create a mark. Since it is our show we do not have any limitations, it’s a free space with no rules to limit us. We are only hoping that our following will grow and we are looking forward to having more comics from different places within the region joining us,” MOD said.
Touching on why they decided to have TOS play on social media, MOD stated that times have changed and gone are the days when one would have to take their production to broadcasters to have it play on TV channels.
With this production he said their goal is to break boundaries and have it watched in other countries.
However, he stated that with time they would have the production playing on TV stations.
It is a common trend in countries such as South Africa, Zimbabwe and USA to have comedians set up satirical TV shows such as this one.
“It has been a tough journey for the local comedy industry because it has not been taken seriously for a long time and with time we have grown. This is why it took us so long to come up with such a platform”.
