COSBOTS reluctant to change leadership

The current board of directors includes Prince Monna as board chairperson Barolong Seboni as vice-chairperson while Kopano Mantswe is the treasurer. Monna took over the chairpersonship role when Solomon B Monyame resigned earlier this year and was supposed to hold fort until the new board members were voted in. Mantswe on the other hand took over when Patrick Setsiba resigned in January 2017. Seboni took over the role from the former deputy board chairperson Nkgopolang Tlhomelang, who also stepped down after his term elapsed.
Recently added board members are Tomeletso Sereetsi, Game ‘Zeus’ Bantsi, Alfredo Mosimanegape, Mpho Nakedi, Trinity Mpho and Winani Kambutu. Other members included two from associations and one member from a government department, who doesn’t have voting powers as a director.
Although Monna refused to talk to this publication concerning the transformation of the royalties organisation following the AGM, COSBOTS acting CEO, Ditiro Chaa said people have already taken the positions and it is now up to the board to set out a mandate. He said so far there has been no indication from the new board members whether to change the board of leadership or not.
“It is up to the board. We are still fresh from the election therefore it is too early to say,” he said.
Chaa was quick to specify that it is possible for the board of directors to remain in their positions until their term elapses.
“They shall hold their respective offices concurrently for a period of three years and be eligible for re-appointment so long as they respectively remain qualified to act as directors,” stipulates article 38 of the COSBOTS constitution.
The constitution further stipulates that the chairperson and vice-chairperson of the organisation, of whom one at least shall be a composer, author or performer, shall be elected by the board of directors from among themselves and shall be respectively the chairperson and vice-chairperson of the board.
Conversely, Chaa said they have not received the long anticipated forensic report from Companies and Intellectual Property Authority (CIPA). CIPA spokesperson, Marietta Magashula told Showbiz last week that they were working on releasing the report to the new board.
