CSR Projects Critical In Building Future Leaders

Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), is not new as different businesses across the globe (including Botswana) practise it.
Many companies engage in CSR to empower communities by providing financial support, while others may engage in other ways for the betterment of the communities where they operate.
This weekend, Deloitte & Touché Botswana donated a counselling centre and sick bay facility to be used by students. Many other organisations like Orange Botswana, Mascom, the US Embassy, should be commended for taking the lead in supporting communities where they operate.
The list, of course, is inexaustible as many others also practise CSR in one form or another. Deloitte & Touché Botswana’s donation is particularly critical in that a counselling facility is a must-have for each and every school.
School-going children are the future leaders of our country, and as such creating a conducive, learning environment for them cannot is a must.
Apparently, the school initially did not have a private area, where students could go for help when they encounter challenges in their studies.
Many might take a facility like that lightly, but actually, counselling support for students is very important, and the presence of, or lack of a counselling facility can have a big impact on how the student performs in school.
This gesture should motivate other companies to invest in the communities where they operate for the betterment and development of those communities.
Today, the US Embassy will donate a lab to the Area W Clinic and office facilities, porta-cabins, and one lab to Nyangabgwe Referral Hospital, in Francistown.
There is no doubt such donations play a very important role in advancing public health amongst the communities in Francistown and surrounding areas.
These initiatives should motivate and encourage other companies to follow suit and invest in the betterment of their communities.
Of course large corporations, which make a lot of money, may sponsor bigger projects, but that should not deter small ones and individuals from giving a helping hand.
