The grand finale is scheduled to take place tonight at the University of Botswana (UB) Indoor Sports Centre and one of the 12 finalists will be crowned queen.
From the time of the auditions to date the organisers have not yet announced the prize money stating that they are working on logistics. “The money is there and we are yet to meet with other committee members this afternoon (yesterday) to discuss on how much we will allocate to the queen and the runner ups,” Miss Botswana coordinator, Dorcas Thobega said. She had previously noted that this year the prize money will be more compared to last year’s since it was a jubilee year. The prize money then was P300,000. “We have also agreed that when the queen wins she will not be given all the money immediately after the finale. The queen will be given half upon winning and the other amount when her reign ends so that they stay focused and aligned to their duties,” Thobega said. Meanwhile, outgoing Miss Botswana Thata Kenosi will not be available to crown her successor at tonight’s grand finale since she left the country last weekend for Britain where she is pursuing her studies.
“Unfortunately we tried to persuade Thata to stay but she explained that this will be her first week in school and she had to be present for orientation. First princess Oabona Kamona will crown the queen at the grand finale,” Thobega said. However, in an interesting twist of events, Kenosi has since expressed interest to come back home to crown her successor as she has stated so on her Facebook page.
“Hopefully the Miss Botswana Organaisation and Ministry of Youth Empowerment, Sport and Cultural Development will accept my request to travel back to my beloved country to handover my crown as a closing to my chapter as Miss Botswana, (sic)” Kenosi wrote. The top 12 finalists comprise of well-seasoned models that have rich experience in pageantry because they have participated in different high calibre pageants including Miss Botswana. The 12 finalists have been in camp for the past four weeks where different experts drilled them on how to approach the grand finale.
