A statement announcing the appointment says Sean is a seasoned mining professional who has enjoyed a diverse and rewarding career in the international mining industry.
Sean has held a variety of technical, operations, consulting and senior management roles and gained broad experience in different phases of open pit and underground mine development.
He initially worked in a range of technical, operations and consulting roles in Australia, Canada, Papua New Guinea and Chile.
Sean is currently President and Chief Operating Officer at EKATI Diamonds - part of BHP Billiton - in Canada.
His experience has covered several commodity sectors including diamonds, base metals, precious metals, thermal coal, oil sands and industrial minerals.
Specialising in organisational change and transition, Sean has developed a proven track record for improving safety, developing a high performance workforce culture, increasing production, reducing costs and delivering on major capital projects.
The statement says his strong background in strategic mine planning, project management and knowledge of business improvement processes form the foundation of his track record for delivering results.
He also has a particular passion for behavioural safety and developing people.
Sean holds a BSC (Engineering Geology) degree from the University of Canberra in Australia and a Master of Applied Science (Engineering Geology) degree from the Gartrell School of Mines in South Australia.
