Illegal Batswana immigrants arrested in Zambia

Zambia immigration department spokesperson Mulako Mbangweta confirmed in an interview that the duo were arrested for failure to extend their days of stay in Zambia.
She stated that the two were apprehended with 40 other illegal immigrants after the department carried out a clean-up operation exercise to get rid of   illegals in Zambia.

Mbangweta said the operations were carried out in Lusaka and Shangombo areas.
She said in Shangombo area, an Angolan national who entered the country illegally on Saturday was apprehended at a Roman Catholic guesthouse around 22 hours but paid an admission of guilty fine.

Mbangweta said the Angolan was placed on a form 15, a notice for any prohibited immigrant to leave the country.

She said the department also apprehended 17 Somali nationals in Lusaka who entered the country illegally through the Nakonde border post and were found with fake Kenyan passports.

The 17 Somalis are currently in detention in Lusaka.

She said nine Congolese nationals were intercepted at Luangwa border post, Eastern province, when they tried to exit into neighbouring Mozambique.

Mbangweta said the Congolese illegals were in possession of forged Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) passports.

She said the department also apprehended 13 illegal immigrants at Lubama and Soweto markets, Nyumbayanga and Kabwata townships, all in Lusaka.

The illegal immigrants comprised seven Tanzanians, four Congolese, and two Rwandese nationals.

'All of them are currently in detention, pending prosecution,' Mbangweta said.
