Selolwane hopes for first League title

This was because Supersport United midfield is packed and the former Gaborone United (GU) star risked being relegated to the bench. However, he seems to know what he was doing. 'When Gavin Hunt (Supersport coach) recruited me, I believe that he saw something in me and I had confidence that I'll feature in the team. The level of competition here is high and I'm glad that I've found a new home. As the defending champions, we're expected to win every game and the coach expects the best from us,' he told Sport Monitor on Friday morning.

Selolwane said that he was motivated to join Supersport United because he wants to win the league title. He added that he has never won a league title in his football career and his current club has what it takes to end the drought. 'We're going to be a target for a number of sides but I've confidence we can do enough (defend the title),' he added.

Selolwane's career at Supersport United started on a low note when they were humiliated 3-0 by Bidvest Wits in their opening league game. But they put up a strong fight to beat Mpumalanga Aces 2-1 at the Super Stadium last Wednesday. Selolwane scored the opening goal in the 26th minute and his five-star performance saw him being voted man of the match. 'In our game against Wits, we defended deep and we were severely punished.

Against Aces, the coach encouraged us to be more offensive and told me to add up numbers when we're attacking. That's why I was always in the box when we were on attack and as for the goal, it was well taken and I liked it,' he said. Throughout the game against Aces, Selolwane received lots of praises from TV commentators who described him as an intelligent player. The player said that he has received a warm welcome from his new teammates hence he has not struggled to settle in. He added that things might have been made easy by the fact that his teammates knew him from the time he was with Ajax Cape Town. 'I've always had good games against Supersport and at times scored against them. Interestingly, my first goal in South Africa (2005 when he played for Santos) was against Supersport in the Coca-Cola Cup,' he said. On Wednesday, Selolwane will have the first taste of the Tshwane derby when they take on Mamelodi Sundowns in a Premier League game at the HM Pitje Stadium.

He said that since Sundowns have started on a high note, it is going to be a tough game. 'They (Sundowns) will be buoyed by their massive supporters but I believe we will be up to task,' he said.
