Executive director Nelson Phoga said in an interview that the name Mareledi is similar to Makgabaneng as it explains that life is not a smooth journey because people go through obstacles everyday and this drama aims at trying to demonstrate ways of avoiding or dealing with life difficulties.
'We are trying to build hope into hopeless situations (Mareledi a botshelo),' emphasised Phoga. Phoga also pointed out that they are planning to add more characters to the story and so far, they have been getting positive responses from Batswana.
Showtime also learnt that there would be no changes in the production crew, as the same people who have been producing the radio drama will also be producing for TV. 'The only difference will be the actors,' he said. Ben Ngwato, the producer of the drama who was one of the judges, said he was pleased with the turnout as it showed that Batswana are loyal followers of the programme. 'So far I have realised that Batswana are very talented but they still lack self-belief and am disappointed because they were not bringing out that confidence,' said Ngwako.
Mareledi will address four themes namely Abstinence, Multiple Concurred Partners (MCP), Safe Male Circumcision (SMC) and correct and continued condom use and every character will have an understudy in case of an emergency. The serial drama will have 52 episodes, which the producers hope will start broadcasting on Botswana Television (Btv) by September.
