Phikwe Golf Club to host Botswana Life Insurance tourney

Club spokesperson Palalani Moitlhobogi told Mmegi Sport the tournament is expected to attract golfers and non-golfers from around the country.  He said that the tournament is one of their biggest and it has always been a success. Moitihobogi stated that last year, the insurance giant sponsored the club with P35, 000 and they also bought t-shirts for golfers and other money was spent on other logistics which meant the figure could have gone as far as P60, 000.

BLIL Selebi-Phikwe branch manager, Catherine Jeremiah revealed that the tournament has been sponsored to the tune of P100, 000.  She explained that the amount goes towards the development of the clubhouse, competition prizes and a networking session.  The idea is to spend the whole day with clients and potential clients, hence they are motivated to continue sponsoring the tournament each year, she said.  Jeremiah said it is also a way of thanking their clients for having chosen Botswana Life as a business partner. 'At the same time the idea is to promote the sport of golf and dispel the myth that it is only for the elite or for a certain people with some status in the community.  'Golf, like all other sports, cuts across all societal barriers, race or colour,' Jeremiah said. She stated that Botswana Life Insurance has been operating in Selebi-Phikwe for over 10 years now. Jeremiah stated that it is their duty to give back to the mining town that has received them with open arms.

BLIL head of Individual Life, Moletlanyi Tshosa, is expected to grace the event. 'The tournament has grown significantly over the years. During the past three years, we have witnessed a crop of young players from Phikwe Golf Club dominating the event and other events across the country.  'We are proud to having been able to afford these young athletes an opportunity to grow their talent,' Jeremiah said.
