Segotso and his love for acting

Born and bred in the Tswapong region 30 years ago, Segotso says his love and commitment to acting and the arts industry brought him to Gaborone.'I never wanted it, it just came.  It all started when I was at primary school when my teacher picked me to perform a bible scripture and ever since then, I never looked back.  I have always loved telling stories from a young age, and have never pictured myself doing anything else aside from acting,' he said.  He adds jokingly that a love of the arts must run in his family since his grandmother was a great storyteller and his brother was a good writer and poet.  In 2002 Segotso joined the Youth Health Organisation (YOHO), where he got the opportunity to perform plays and visit the renowned sets of Isidingo, Generations and The Market Theatre in South Africa.His face has been seen in Thokolosi, and Mma Ramotswe, and he says that he prides himself with his appearance  in those productions because they contributed a great deal to the growth of his career and helped him make good contacts that he intends to use in the near future.  'I have also done quite a number of educational plays for YOHO, BNYC, PSI and BOTUSA, to mention but a few.  Segotso says he is inspired by the fact that the characters he plays are able to transform people and/or communities.  He also prides himself in the fact that acting keeps him molded, guided and disciplined.

Segotso has decided to take a break from performing and is currently running small businesses from his home village of Sefhare.He said: 'I am performer/actor but I have since taken a break to focus on other things - issues of bread and butter.  Our industry is still at conceiving stage and a man needs to eat.  Currently, I am more focused on the event management business, which is my other strength.  I did a number of fresher's balls before, Intervarsity games, a series of promotional events and I have also been part of Mascom Re Daa Road Shows and Boosta Bash.'He says he is also involved with various organisations including the Pledge 25 Club that encourages individuals to donate blood 25 times in their lifetime. He is also working on a production that will be centered on Batswana comedians and is also one of the organisers of the annual Botswana Festive Jam.
