UK based Lionheart to perform in Gabs

Dubbed Small Steps With Lorraine Lionheart, the show will benefit charitable causes locally.The concert, which is billed to start 7:00 am, promises to be one of the highlights of the year. Music lovers can expect to dance to her hits such as Naledi, Follow the Sound and Solomon from her debut album, That's Me. Inspired by legends such as them Fela Kuti, Mariam Makeba, Angelique Kidjo, Richard Bona, Lady Smith Black Mambazo, PJ Powers, Youssou N'Dour, Letta Mbulu, Jabu Khanyile, Lucky Dube, Caiphus Semenya, Tshepo Tshola, Ringo Madlingozi and Oliver Mutukuzi, Lorraine seems  determined to follow on  her role models' footsteps. 

'I am not only inspired by their artistry, I am driven by their achievements as musicians and as individual members of our society, and most importantly what they stand for and represent as powerful African artists. Artists such as Paul Simon, Peter Gabriel, Joan Armatrading, Tracy Chapman, Johnny Cash, Bob Marley, Kenny Rogers, Neil Young, Sam Cooke, Etta James, Nina Simone and Dolly Parton also inspire me greatly,' she says on her website, www.lorrainelionheart.com. Born and raised in the Kalahari Desert, Lorraine's first musical influence was from the San tribe._'My voice is a God given opportunity to celebrate who I really am.

It is difficult for me to categorise my sound because it  is from that many influences, but I feel that my music is a mixture of all the things I love, all the things I have and all that I am. I like to believe that my music is universal, even though I embrace my African roots I try not to build geographical barriers and hope my love for people from all walks of life, will enable me to reach out to everyone,' she writes on her website. She says that she is also very keen on community services and getting involved in work for good causes.'I truly believe every talent no matter how small, has a great purpose and sharing my music and my experiences is just a very small way of giving back,' she says.
