Venson-Moitoi prepares for 2013 examinations

She plans to intensify in-service training for teachers on the revised curriculum and the new grading system.  A press release from Venson-Moitoi's private secretary Oteng Mokowe states that the minister and a ministry management team agreed to put these measures in place to address challenges experienced during the build-up to the 2012 Junior Certificate Examinations (JCE).

The ministry also plans to monitor the revised curriculum system and review existing education programmes as part of the measures.  These measures were arrived at following a meeting held on Tuesday by the minister and a team including the permanent secretary, deputy permanent secretary and all directors in the ministry.

According to the press release, Venson-Moitoi emphasised the need to invest more on monitoring of education. She advised directors to closely monitor and supervise schools and to also ensure that delivery of content and assessment tools are in place to prepare students for the 2013 JCE. The minister highlighted the societal expectation on the part of the ministry to deliver on their mandate and therefore called on her management team to ensure that those who fail to deliver are removed from the education system.

The meeting was held with the objective of deliberating and reflecting on the 2012 JCE examinations, results and the revised curriculum. The deliberations also covered a wide range of issues, amongst them the supervision of schools, monitoring and auditing of education systems and review of ministry structures.
