Man stabs lover and then ingests poison

According to Letlhakane Police Station Commander Superintendent Loeto Ramabokwa, police received a report that a 23 year-old young woman who hailed from Ditawana Cattle-post near Letlhakane was stabbed three times with a knife on December 26.

'The suspect, Nkalolang Kgwarae, allegedly stabbed the victim at around 10:25 am and fled from the scene,' he said. Ramabokwa said upon arrival at the scene, the police found the victim in a pool of blood. She was rushed to Letlhakane Primary Hospital where she was certified dead upon arrival.

According to Ramabokwa, the victim and the 35-year old suspect from Dukwi, had a heated argument after he found her and other people skinning a cow.  After stabbing Sukiri, Kgwarae allegedly fled and later ingested a poisonous substance.

'Kgwarae was found oozing saliva under a tree after a passerby saw him and notified the police. When we arrived we discovered that Kgwarae was the suspect we were looking for,' he said. He said Kgwarae was also transported to the hospital where he was certified dead. The two were buried in their respective home villages over the festive season.

'Murders and suicides cases are a cause of concern in Letlhakane because people have made it a habit to take the law into their hands by killing and then committing suicide afterwards,' he said. Ramabokwa stated that in 2012, the police recorded three murder cases which all involved lovers, a sign that cases of passion killings haven't subdued.

'People should learn to resolve their problems without resorting to violence,' he said.
