Controversy hounds 2012 Boosta Bash

Assistant Commander of Urban Police Station in Gaborone, Smash Mokoba, has confirmed that although no one has been arrested, a case has been opened.

'I can confirm that a case has been reported but no links to any suspects has been established so far,' Mokoba told Mmegi yesterday. 'We are still investigating.' Mokoba further stated that they had six tickets that compared well with the 4,000 tickets that the organisers had reported as counterfeited.

'We have six tickets but we cannot confirm the amount lost,' he said. Inspite of the losses being claimed and 'a few minor incidents', Modibe has defended the Boosta Bash, saying the incidents occurred outside areas of their jurisdiction and therefore meant the organisers could not be held responsible.

According to police, what the organisers call 'minor incidents' included a young woman being raped and then robbed of money and two cellphones and an attempt to rape her friend.  Mokoba explained: 'The two young women were walking from Bojanala Waterfront to their car. The culprits appeared from a surrounding bush and attacked them.'

In another incident, a young man was stripped of his clothes, his car radio and two cellphones after his car was broken into.
