Pula! Money Matters play is back

Directed by Mpho Rabotsima, the play will tomorrow open for a four-day run at Maitisong before embarking on a nationwide tour covering more than 10 towns.Showbiz had the pleasure to catch the cast members in action yesterday at a dress rehearsal of the Saturday show.  The six-person cast surely looked like they knew what they were doing and more than ready to give the audience value for their money.

Rabotsima told Showbiz that he is confident that the play will educate and raise awareness among the people.'The story is about how an ordinary person out there relates with money as we all know that everyone out there finds himself/herself in debt or finds it difficult to manage their finances.  So in this drama we present three characters who experience these problems,' he said.

Rabotsima further mentioned that the drama is divided into three acts, where in each act, the audience will meet a character they may relate with.  'In Act One, we present the character Keke who is in his early 30s and is working but he spends a lot and fails to stick to his budget. Act Two introduces Rra Kabelo who is in his 40s but is an impulsive spender; this character shows how older people handle money and how they also relate with their families. The last act is about Rra Bogosi, who is the same age as the second character, but the only difference is that he is more responsible and keeps to his budget,' he said.

The audience will be given an opportunity to discuss these issues with cast members and find ways of how they can be addressed when they find themselves in similar situations.  'This is known as Forum theatre.  We are going to involve the audience, we are trying to initiate dialogue and have the audience converse with us about these problems but we do realise that there are no quick fixes to them,' he said.

At Maitisong, the play will run on July 26, 27 and 31st; and August 1.  The nationwide tour will begin on August 5 with two shows in Ramotswa and Lobatse.  The following day they will be at Kanye and Jwaneng while Molepolole and Mochudi people will see them on August 7.'We have tried to pick venues that are close to people's places so that many theatre enthusiasts can attend; dates for other places will be announced in due course,' Rabotsima concluded.

The Company @ Maitisong produces the play.
