Chikwanda to stay at Nico

He stated that they have managed to reach an agreement with Chikwanda for a two-year contract that he should sign soon. Taolo said that they are happy about the performance of the coach, hence the decision to give him another chance to guide the team. He explained that it was for the first time in the history of the team to end the season with 56 points.  As a result, such an achievement could not go unnoticed.

'Football is a cash-intensive sport but we have been fortunate to get support from BCL Mine. When we came into office, we had a four-year strategic plan.' The first two years were to build the club and the third year was to improve performance of the club and to bring the Premier League title for the first time ever to Selebi-Phikwe by the fourth year,' said Taolo. He revealed that they had received many requests from various teams interested in recruiting some of the Nico players. But he urged the players to remain resolute when accosted by other club officials. For his part, Chikwanda said his stay at Nico has been amazing. He stated that he has coached many teams but the support by Nico management has been the best and has made it possible for him and his technical team to achieve goals that they had set for themselves.

Club president Ray Cardoza said the aim of Nico management was to provide the players with the best facilities that would motivate them. He promised that BCL Mine would continue assisting the club financially. Cardoza pointed out that the mine has already built  administration offices for the club and in the coming few years, the intention is to come up with a modern training ground. Another speaker at the event, Harold van Zyl, said Nico has always been known to start the season on a high note and end it at the bottom. But in contrast, that did not happen this season due to commitment and hard work by the players, their coach and management.

Van Zyl said that ending the season as runners-up was not by fluke.'It is not easy for most teams to play 10 games without a loss but you managed to do that. You faced some challenges such as having to play mid-week and fixtures that kept on changing. That did not destabilise you; well done,' said van Zyl.
