Vultures to play Eastern Free State

Vultures' coach Ivor Greeves said the preparations were on course and confirmed the April 27 fixture.The team started preparing two weeks ago and only trains once a week on Wednesdays. Greeves has 45 players in camp and said he will trim the squad as preparations progress. He will watch closely when the league starts in exactly two weeks' time to track his players' club performances.

'We have 45 players that we selected and we will watch with keen interest in next few weeks of the league. Our first practice match will be against Eastern Griffons from South Africa at the end of April,' he told Mmegi Sport. The Free State side are a South African rugby union team that participates in the annual Currie Cup and Vodacom Cup tournaments. They play out of Welkom at North West Stadium, and draw players from roughly the eastern third of Free State province. Greeves said the April friendly would be followed by two other international games that will constitute the team's preparations before travelling to Senegal. He, however, said the two matches were yet to be confirmed. Greeves is convinced by the time they play the friendly matches, the team would have shaped up.'We will have a decent preparation when we play Eastern Free State next month; we are putting the team for that match. It will be close to what the final squad will be,' he said.

The local league roars into life on March 23 with a match between defending Botswana Rugby Union League champions, Gaborone Hogs and the White Rhinos. The Rhinos start off with a date against Eastern Military Garrison Gunners while BDF Cheetahs will be at home, attempting to tame the Gantsi Hungry Lions in Gaborone.
