Records Tumble At Swimming Gala

The south continued its recent dominance, amassing 713 points to the north's 645.

Outstanding Dante Duke of the south broke three records in the Under-13 category. In the individual medley event he posted 1.14.95 to break the previous record of 1.17.84. In freestyle, the swimming sensation posted 30.33 to breach the old record of 31.12.

His 39.59 mark erased the 40.76 record in the breaststroke. The Under-9 and Under-10 relays teams - both boys and girls- also set new records, although the figures were not availed at the time of going to the press.  'It was particularly encouraging to see many newcomers and young juniors taking part in the competition. These are the future of swimming in Botswana, which, judging by their fantastic performances should be a bright one,' said the Gala coordinator, Valery Ives.  The participation of swimmers who are part of the national teams added to the gala's excitement.

This year's event was sponsored by Spar, Stanbic Bank Botswana, Engen, Nkadime Quick Cash, Fourie Investments and Senn Foods.
