Pesalema Is Miss Earth Hour

Motshodi was crowned the winner after beating  11 other aspirants to take home the title during a three hour competition on Saturday night at the Civic Centre in Gaborone.  The pageant which is the brainchild of Flora Mmereki targets students from junior and secondary schools as a way to educate them about issues surrounding global warming. However it drew just a handful of spectators mainly young students leaving the civic centre hall empty.

Despite what could be described as a slow night overall with the show starting late, the contestants seemed determined when they first appeared on stage strutting in bikini wear and later on with casual wear as they showed their different talents through dancing and singing. The defining moment came during the contestants' parade of evening wear where they had to impress the judges one last time to make it to the top five. Despite being asked simple questions about global warming some contestants choked subsequently reducing  their chance to make it to the top three.  However the judges were impressed by Boitshepo Molwane, Lebogang Masilo and Pesalema Motshodi as they ultimately made it to the top three and faced another challenge of impressing the judges for the crown.  After long deliberations Motshodi was named the winner much to the approval of the crowd as during the questions she exhibited briliance, calmness and confidence.

Molwane and Masilo got second and third princess respectively.  Jika Jive was one of the dance groups that gave the audience a shakedown from what could have been a boring night.
